Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Yesterday I woke up with some pain in the front of my left leg.  It only hurt when flexed a certain way.  I described it to some people and they said it was shin splints. Well that sucks.  I needed to go tempo today, but it hurt to run fast at the start of the run, so I ended up just running fast when it felt good, and slowing down if it started to hurt.  When I started running, everything felt great but my shin, so I slowed down even though I wanted to push myself.  I did 2 miles tempo and uphill during the run (5:27, 5:20), and then it started hurting a little, so I slowed down.  Then after 2 easy miles, I turned around and ran 2 miles downhill tempo. The first one is a sharp downhill, so it should've been faster, and the second one is gradual.  My first one was 4:50, and the second one was 4:31.  After that I still felt great, other than my shin, and tried to keep a good pace.

1 easy on a tredmill with a progressive incline, then 6.5 miles with some of the XC guys, and then 1 mile when I got home.

10.5 miles, but my legs feel like it was a lot more.  I warmed up almost two miles, and then ran the first part of the workout.  My coach had me do some Russian intervals. 3X(3X300m at mile race pace or faster with 30 sec. recovery.  In that recovery I had to run 100m.) with 3 min. recovery in between sets. It didn't feel too bad on the first 300m, but after that it started hurting in the calves.  My left shin didn't hurt for the first time this week!  Splits: 44, 46, 47, 2nd set: 46, 46, 47, 3rd set: 46, 47, 48.  The goal was 48 or faster.  After I was supposed to do 2X800m at 2:18, but after I tried my first one, my legs were just too tired to push through anything passed 400m.  I did some 400s and 200s instead at just a little faster pace and less recovery than planned.-(3)400s-1:05s and (2)200s-32s.  Then ran a cool down, then saw Kyler, ran with him, then paced Claire for her 800s, and then ran some more cool down, then ran a downhill, and uphill when I got home.  Tired legs.

4 that were supposed to easy, but I was in a hurry afterward, so I had to run it faster at probably 6 min. pace.

5 miles later.  Slower and Easier, so it felt good.  And afterward I didn't jump in the car like earlier, so my legs feel better after too.  I'm excited to watch the Mountain Regional tomorrow. It's in Ogden, and my dad got off work so we could go watch it!

Ran a little cheering people on during the guys Mountain Region race, and then changed into my running clothes, and then ran with Rory and Kramer 6 miles while cheering on the girls race and after it.

When I got home, I ran a little over 4 miles at a good pace.  I didn't run my workout today, but switched it with tomorrow's easy day. Most of the snow had melted, so that was good, and hopefully it doesn't snow too much tomorrow.

A very hard day mentally and physically, but mostly mentally.  I ran to Mack Park, and did the workout. 6Xsteep lions park hill, then up golf course hill (In other words, 6XLong steep hill.) with 4X200m sprints afterward.  It was snowing and was very windy when I started, and it got worse.  I ran my first 4 at probably the right pace.  They hurt, especially my quads.  My next one felt slower, and I was thinking about stopping.  Before my final one I dropped a layer off at the buttom of the hill, and then ran it faster than I think I did any of the other ones.  By the time I got my other shirt and hat on, they were soaked.  Then I ran home, and did the 200m's on the road.  I didn't time these, thinking I'd be lucky if they were even 31s.  I then ran 2 miles cool down to bring it to ten.
