Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

AM-Warmed up with Claire, then 1200m at 3:24 (goal:3:27), and 3X800m at 2:14, 2:18, and 2:16 (goal 2:18) and 4X400m at 1:02, 1:02, 1:02, and 1:03 (goal:1:03).  I was supposed to do two other 400s, but when I started my legs felt very tired and wiped out, so I wasn't expecting the workout to go this good.  3 min. recovery between the 1200 and the 800s, and 400m between the 400s.  I thought about stopping after the first 400m, but I kept telling myself, just one more, then I'll be done. After doing that 3 times I was done.  Cooled down afterward.

PM-4 easy up the canyon in the dark. I also went on a hike today, but I didn't run it at all, so that doesn't count as any miles. We saw a USU XC runner run passed us, then saw the trail led to a tunnel that was 4 feet high(maybe less), and have no idea how he ran through it, or where he was going before that, because there wasn't any more trails at the end of it.  After my run, I did a core workout.

5.5 easy with Tyson and Alex.  I said we should do Golf Course extended.  It wasn't that snowy for the first part, but then I realized, we're in the mountains.  And then we were sliding in the mud and snow.  It's great running with people.

3.1 easy when I got home.

I wasn't feeling that great before I started.  My legs are still tired from the workouts last week and on Monday.  Today I went 4 tempo, and other than my first mile (4:47) everything else didn't feel right.  Still ended in 20:40 to keep it at 5:10 AP.  After the first mile I slowed down on purpose, but my legs just hurt.

4 miles with Kramer in the morning with some strides.  Still felt sore.

Ran the course (there was a freaking river that you cross 4 times for the race!) and ran to a bathroom in the middle of the course, and then ran 4 strides.

A pretty crazy race.  Coach Murphy was great and invited to me to come with his team down to NXN southwest a few weeks ago.  I had been looking forward to this race, but my main focus was/is Footlocker still. I hadn't tapered as much as usual for this race, but knew I should still be a top-5 finisher if I had an okay race.  I warmed up later than usual, and got to the start late.  I planned on taking the first mile at a pace that felt easy, not caring how well I started, but get close enough to the front, and either make a move to the front (at the mile marker) and run on someones tail for the rest of the race, or break away from the pack, and then at mile 2 make a move to win if I'm in position.  I ended up do my stretches at the start line, trying to hurry and get them in.

The gun went off, and I did the same thing I did at state, just not at an all out sprint this time.  I got out well, and in a good enough position to make a move, and my legs felt great.  Nothing hurt, it felt easier than a tempo run.  I got in position and let the Colorado kid go.  Now looking back on it, I wish I would have tried to go with him, and not let him get a big gap on me.  On the first turn, it was really muddy, and some kid in a Dover uniform cut me off and I went from 5th to mid pack.  I was ticked, but got into 2nd at the mile marker.  This is where I should've made my move, but instead I just ran next to Brewer.  My legs felt good, nothing hurt.  It felt more like a fun run for some reason (probably the mud, we crossed the 3 inch deep 6 foot wide river 2 times by now.  I ran in the less muddy parts, and before I knew it I was at the 2nd mile marker (10:02).  I then decided to make my move, but I was too late.  A kid in a green jersey went with me, but burned up and fell off after a half mile.  I started catching Cerake, but I wasn't in it all the way, and I was too late.  He was around 9:48, maybe faster at the 2 mile mark.  I finally felt like I was racing again. If someone was with me, like Kramer(got boxed in at the start) or Connor Mcmillan(sick), I would've caught him because I would've been pushed by someone else, not just a target for the last half mile. I ended up finishing 5 seconds behind him in second.  Zach Jacklin, Mike Buckly, and Brewer all came in about 9 seconds later.  I congratulated Cerake and others, then went on my cool down.

Later I ran more with Murphy and Kramer whenever the bus stopped on the way home. If we ran at 7:30 pace then it added up to be 3 miles.  The Alta team finished 10th, which was great, even though they were hoping to be 2nd or 3rd and go to nationals.  None of them had the race they were looking for today.
