High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

So, since last week was homecoming, and it was really busy, Coach had it be a recovery week. We mainly did sprints in our workouts, like on Monday and Friday, and on Saturday was the dance and the ACT for me, so I was really burned out mentally, but yesterday was a good recovery day.  Today we did a mile warm up, then 3X800m at 2 mile pace with 1:30 recovery, then 4X400m with 60 sec. recovery at same pace, then we got a full recovery before doing 4X200m hard with 200m recovery.  First two 800s went well, they were mostly on grass, and the first was net uphill, second was net downhill.  2:16, 2:14.  Third one I struggled, but still ran a 2:22.  After that, the 400s didn't go great, but went okay. 1:10(uphill), 1:07(downhill), 1:09(uphill), 1:03(downhill with Alex, who won some big triathlon in his age group over the weekend. He should've just been training for running).  Took the full recovery and then did the 200s.  The first 3 were sorta downhill, and we ran them in 26.7, 26.6, and 26.1, but it was pretty crowded, so we had to weave around people.  Last one was uphill in 29.  Mile cool down, then 4 miles when I got home.

Warm up and my hamstring was hurting from doing a workout wrong yesterday.  I asked Coach if I could just hang with Alex the first 2 miles, and then go.  He said as long as my third mile was good, it'd be okay, so that's essentially what happened. Alex, Nick, and I ran together for the first mile and a half, then they started slowing down a bit. My hamstring was feeling good, so I tried to take off, but I didn't have the right mind-set, and it didn't end up being that much faster than the others. First mile was 5:01/02.  Alex took second, Nick was third. Our team won it(5th year in a row!) by the best we'd ever won it. We had 1, 2, 5, 9, 11, and not everyone had their best race, so I think we have a really good chance at region.  It was 91 degrees, the highest recorded temperature for Cache Valley on this date, so we had a lot of people run slow times for themselves.  Cooled down with everyone, and then ran 4 more miles when I got home.

AM-3.25 miles in the morning with the team.  Great temperature.  60 degrees at 6:00.  It's usually freezing in the mornings, so it felt super nice.

     PM-7 miles. It was hot.

7.7 to Aggie Ice cream with a 3 mile "tempo" in.  I struggled to get moving at all, so I can't really call it tempo.  First mile was around 5:30s, so it wasn't that good compared to usual. Rode the bus back.  Did 3 miles when I got home.

5 mile trail run with Stockton and Ethan. We bought Gossners before, and then drank it after.  We need to make this a weekly activity.  Later I did some mile repeats that were supposed to be anywhere from 4:50-5:00 with a 1 min. break because I was feeling a little sick.  It went well, my first and third were fast, but I felt better as it went on.  4:48, 4:54, 4:47. 1.5 warm up and cool down.
