Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

The race started in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, and ended in Hyrum. My dad drove me and Greg Law up at about 6 or something.

Last night I had a sore throat that hurt and so I did what I could to end the sore throat, drink tons of water.  Before the race I started to regret it. I had to go to the restroom every 5 minutes or less, but anyway onto better stuff to talk about.

I got to meet and talk to a lot of runners.  My first few miles were at the pace I wanted.  There was someone who came up to me around mile 3. I talked to him and luckily for me he didn't sign up for the race - he later told me he ran for Weber State and bandit ran it. He passed me in between 6 and 7, which is when I started to slow down and started going slower than I wanted to.

At around mile 7.5 there was an aid station where I stopped running for the first time in a race to get a drink.  I was a little dehidrated. I then just ran it from there trying to push it.  I looked back to see Jeryl (sorry, I can't spell names) getting closer, so I tried for the last mile to push it, but for some reason I didn't feel like I could.  After, talked to Jeryl for a bit.  I talked to a bunch of new people, and ones I'd already known from past races, which was pretty fun.  I talked to Jason who was a friend I'd just made that week at EFY who was wearing a red, white, and blue mowhawk wig, which he told me later made him really sweaty, especially at the first mile.  Nice run.  I recommend the course to anyone who is wondering if they should run it.

Ran at 7P.M, which wasn't a good idea.  It was still about 80 or 90 degrees outside.  I've now learned the lesson that I should never run in the heat or while the sun is still shining.  I stopped at the turn around spot, took off my shirt because I was getting way too hot, and then I ran home.  I was sweating so much, that I drank 1 liter of ice water in about 5 minutes after it, and was still thirsty.

Ran part with the XC team, but then cut off and ran with my dad. Went slow.  Made sure it was just a little run.

It was a great morning to be running a race.  They had the half marathon start 15 minutes before us.

I was hoping for a personal best this race, but I wasn't really prepared for parts of it.  I started off slower then I wanted to. I was running about 40 yards behind 2 people.  I thought they were both running the 5k, so for my first mile (which is probably the reason I went slow) I didn't have a need to go way fast.  Sadly, the one ahead of the 2 guys didn't turn for the 5k turn and kept going.  I tried going faster at that point.

Later I ran on the same street as the 5k and half-marathon runners, which made me feel like I was flying when I passed them, but I was going just my regular pace.  I tried to keep in eyesight of the guy ahead of me that was running the 10k. I lost sight of him after the second or third mile. At the 4th mile or so I went onto the Lagoon trail.  I went way slower on the trail then I hoped, which is probably the reason I didn't get a PR, mostly because it turned a lot and was bumpy.

After I ran up a hill, and for the last third of a mile sprinted down a hill to the finish.  I still am happy about my time, I just wish I could have gotten a PR, but oh well, maybe another day.
