High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

4.25- We warmed up with some of the guys I was going to pace PR in the mile.  I was going to pace (with Kyler) Stockton, Wes, and Ethan to break 5 minutes.  It was a little cold, and windy, but they wanted to do it anyway.  We started, and everyone shot out fast.  I got behind Kyler at the 200m mark.  32! too fast.  After that I passed Kyler a little before the 400m mark, and that was 1:07 for me, 1:08 for Kyler, 1:09 for Stockton.  600m we were 1:45, again, too fast, but getting back on pace.  We hit the 800m at 2:22 or something like that.  Ethan and Wes had both fallen off, but I was going to pace Stockton to break 5.  We kept pushing, and I was around 3:38 on the third lap, and he got around me, into the wind, to pass me.  He ended up finishing in 4:52, which was a 17 second PR.  Ethan was 5:12 (2 second PR), and Wes was 5:35.  I then paced Joseph to go 5:40 in the mile, but I sucked at pacing. We went 1:15, 2:40 or something, and then during his 3rd lap, he thought he was 30 or 40 seconds slow, and just said he wanted to stop.  I thought it was because he was hurting, but he thought he was way off.  We came around 4:10s for his 3rd lap, and for his last lap 5:54 to 5:55(A 2 second PR).  Cool down afterward.

You have a fan, young man. I grew up in Utah, including 5 years in Smithfield, 7 years in Logan, and 10 years in Brigham City. My first competitive running was my Sophomore year of track. I finished 7th at State in the mile in 4:32. Not nearly as fast as you, but fast for that time. One second faster and I would have been 3rd. I finished 3rd in State X-Country my junior year, and finished 3rd in the State mile and two mile. I was injured and couldn't run State X-Country my senior year. I was injured again in track, and never fully recovered, finishing 3rd again in both the mile and two mile. Best time in high school mile was 4:23, and two mile was 9:29. After high school I was on scholarship at the University of Utah. In my first college race, I easily finished first on my team, defeating three high school state champions from just a few months before. Was injured again. I have a lot of experience with injury and some success. My best time in the mile was a 4:10 in a time trial the day before I went to the MTC for a mission to California. Like so many young runners, I came back, got married, had kids, and never continued to pursue my running dreams. But I still love it, even though I'm in my 50s. Anyway, I saw how well you did as a sophomore, and I think you'll do tremendous things. Try not to overwork yourself. If you're too sore, don't push it. If your legs feel like lead, take the day off. Push it hard when you feel good. The sky's the limit!
