Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

We did a long run in the morning.  Ran with Alex a bit faster and a bit less distance that I wanted, but we had to hurry to make the bus to school.  Alex and I kept speeding up a lot during the run.  We started increasing our speed every once in a while.  It was a nice tempo run.

We did some beast hill repeats. They were hard and on some I would be feeling great, thinking I'm going fast, but then Thomas or someone else would pass me going a lot more faster.  It was a good training run.

Did a run that was supposed to help us finish strong.  I don't know if this was going to help or hurt us for tomorrow, but it'll probably help us.  The the coaches know better then I do. :-)

We did some stretching, got ready for the race, watched the girls start.  The MC girls won, I think, but our team still did great.

When we started I didn't want to get trapped like last week so I went out pretty hard at the first.  Tyler and a few other guys gave me some tips before the meet, which helped me out.  I got about 10 seconds ahead of Tyler and Dylan over the first mile, but they stayed the same distance the whole race.  I liked the course, a lot more than Bonneville, and they had a gator ahead of us to keep us from getting lost.

I didn't feel I pushed a ton, but more of just enough to keep me feeling good and keep me going fast.  At the finish I went hard and pushed it with the energy I still had.  I thought Tyler or maybe Dylan would pass me at the end, but I had a good last 400 m which went really well, so they may have gained time on me, but hey, they are on my team.  Everyone did really great not just SV, but also MC. I saw a bunch of people I had met before that ran for MC.  We won, by a good ways, but the MC team put in some good runs also.

The temperature was a little cooler - 82 degrees.

XC- Did a run where we ran race pace, then race pace plus, then cool down.  I don't know the exact distance.  We did it about 5 times, then the freshmen left early to catch the bus.

First sorry-this was on Friday, September 16. I put it on the wrong day.

When we got there we had about 2 hours til the boys varsity race started, and that was a pretty long time. Tyler and Dylan showed me the course and gave me some really good pointers for it.  It was pretty good weather for the first 4 races, but at the boys JV it started raining pretty bad.  At ours it was worse.

I was told that they had a bunch of false starts, which I was a little scared of, but I think they only had one with the girls Varsity race.  We started running and I had a pretty good spot at the first part, then I kept sprinting to what I thought was the distance we sprinted for the distance that we sprinted on for the practice on Wednesday.  I went around a bunch of people to do that.  I went and settled into my pace, and I was in first.

We went up a small hill and the JV boys we finishing their race at this part, and so we had to get around them.  After the small hill there was a small downhill and a few guys passed me.  Then we went up another hill and I got up to the front.  When we went downhill after that and that's when people passed me and I didn't pass them after that.  I ran with them and we got to a muddy trail and it was really hard to run on.  We kept going on it and the top 5 guys all slipped and fell on a turn.  I learned from their mistake and I slowed it down on that turn and went right behind them up the hill that wasn't big or small.  Everyone was slipping there.  People grabbed on to the other people, branches, the ground.  It was a really steep hill.  I think around 10 to 20 people passed me going up that hill, including a team-mate, Dylan.  After it I started catching up to the guys ahead of me. I had lost a lot of time.  I was a small ways behind them, but now that it was level ground I wasn't slipping.

I ran around the football field and an area like that.  A lot of people were cheering on the kid behind me around the football field. His name was Alex and I heard it a ton. After the football field we were going down a hill that was gravel.  Someone and I passed a guy going down the hill.  We crossed a road, and there was a guy who I'd seen a few times cheering on Sky View who said I was 11th.  I wanted a top ten position.  I passed two or three guys and went around the totem pool sculpture that Tyler and Dylan told me about.  I might have passed a guy after that.  I kept going after I crossed the road again.

There was one guy right behind me.  Around the last 400M we both started pushing it.  He got ahead of me by a second or 2 or 3.  At the last 100M stretch I thought if I pass him that could be the determining of a whole place for my team.  I got on my toes and at the last 10 or 15 meters I passed him (his name was Alex, the one who had people yelling his name the whole time telling him to catch me).  I was so happy. According to runner card I beat him by .4 seconds.  Tyler took 20th and Dylan took 21st, then Steven, Nick, Tyson, and Matt.  Our team did pretty great.  We thought we took 4th, but runner card says we tied for 3rd. Nice job SVXC

We did a run where we were supposed to run as a group.  We were going to run miles in a certain time and then get faster from there.  Our first mile was exact, our second was a 5:30 or two minutes faster than we were supposed to have it.  Our third was really close, and our last was 1 minute too fast.  Dylan, Matt, and I kinda pushed the last part, and I felt pretty bad about it.  Did half a mile cool down after that.

Easy pre-meet day.  Tyler told me we would probably be going easy tomorrow so we can do better on Saturday.

We had a meet against Box Elder and Roy.  Coach told us to take it easy so we can have a great race for the meet Saturday. We did a good warm up.  Then we took the first mile hard, then the next 2 miles we would go tempo and go with the group.  Went pretty good.  Tyler was in front of me for the first mile, then a Box Elder runner (who I think was probably wondering what we were doing) and then me.  My first mile was 4:42, and Tyler's was 4 seconds faster.  After that everyone just started coming.  Drew wasn't going to be able to make the meet on Saturday, and Brennan said he wanted to go faster because he is running JV on Saturday.  Our group was all together at about 1.5 miles, and stayed together for about that long too.  We talked some and just enjoyed the run.  At the last 300 meters we got into a train, and at about 200 meters left someone passed Tyler and Tyler passed him back.  After that at the last 100 meters everyone started sprinting.  It was a really fun run.  After we had ran we ran/walked/stretched in the parade.

First off, I actually got DQ.  Besides for that, my team would have won.  I'll explain why at the end.

Our team got up early and met at SV at 6:15.  When we got to the meet, we walked part of the course, cheered for the JV girls.  We had a while before our race started.  We talked, cheered everyone on, and got ready for the race. The races were a bit different then other XC meets.  They went  1. JV girls  2.  JV guys  3.  7th varsity boys  4. 7th varsity girls  5. 6th varsity guys  6. 6th varsity girls. ect...  The JV guys won the meet, and we had a lot of good finishes.  Then the varsity started.  Everyone on our guys team took 1st or 2nd.  We were killing some of the teams.  Bingham was our biggest worry from what I heard.  I warmed up with Tyler.

We got up to the race line and some, whose jersey said Vikings, forgot his bib.  They let him get it, which was the right thing to do.  We started pretty good.  The viking guy and a Bingham guy were with me the whole time.  They both passed me at one part.  We kept running for the course.  At one part I noticed one of them go out of bounds a little, and I was thinking, in kind of a mean way and he was ahead of me, that I could say he stepped out of bounds by a ways.  Then I thought that would be a stupid way to do good, and kept running.  Sometimes I passed them, sometimes they passed me.  Right before the second mile mark I passed them, and stayed ahead of them.  A lot of my team kept cheering me on.  I told Tyler and Brennan I was dead, but I kept pushing it.  I had about 10 seconds on the other guys.  I went at the last turn, where a lady was pointing to go.  I then sprinted toward the finish pushing all I had.  I got there a little over my goal time, but still got a good time.  Then the guy behind me (stupid Bingham guy) kept saying, "he cut the course, he cut the course" and I had no idea what he was talking about so I ignored it.  My team kept congratulating me and I felt way good.  Later when I was way happy and we were leaving to where the rest of the team was,  the officials called my coach over.  He came back and told me that three coaches "verified" that I had cut the course, and I had been disqualified.  Where the lady pointed on the last turn had been a wrong turn by about five to ten feet.  I am really bummed about that.  The vikings guy came up to me right before coach told me they disqualified me, and said that it doesn't matter if I cut the course because I was sooo far ahead of them it wouldn't make a difference and he thought it was stupid.  I am still pretty bummed about it, but oh well, you can't change the past.  I just needed to beat the Bingham guy or be right behind him for the team to win.  Soo close.
