Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

1.5 mile warm up in the really cold rain.  I wasn't ready for rain at all, and it was colder than I usually like for running.  I can handle heat, but when it is cold it gets to me.   I mentally wasn't ready and it changed my plan, but my coach told me to come back and still go for that sub-9.  I asked a lot of people how the race was, and cold was in a bunch of their descriptions.  When we got out on to the track it warmed up a bit, and the sun came out, but it was still really wet on the track.

RACE: The gun went off and I tried to get a good spot and jumped right behind Jake.  At the 200m mark I went around the pack and took the lead for the first few laps.  I don't remember splits, but the laps were slower than I needed to run a sub-9.  On the 3rd or 4th lap Tomy came around me and passed me.  My coach said if anyone passed me to go with them unless they slowed down after that.  We went across the mile at 4:33, which was slower than I was at Davis, but I wasn't feeling as good as I usually did during the first mile.  I stayed right behind Tomy, because every time I tried to pass him I couldn't get around him, so I just tried to hang on.  During the 5th and 6th lap the pace started getting really easy, and I passed him on the end of the 6th.  My lead didn't last long, because with 600m to go Jake passed me.  I tried to hang on and stay with him.  I should've pushed the pace here a lot more, because it wasn't terribly hard.  At 400m to go I stuck on him, but didn't try to pass him.  I thought "Jake always kicks pretty fast, so we'll probably run a 60-61 this lap if I stay with him."   Well that didn't happen and we ran a 1:05-06 last lap.  I  stayed behind him, and with 100 to go I got out into lane 2 and tried to pass him, but I didn't think I could so I got behind him for the last 50m and that is what I really messed up at.  I moved out into lane 2, then back into lane 1 again, and that could've cost me that .38(?) seconds he beat me by.  I had a lot of energy after this race, and I wish I would've pushed it more those last 2 or 3 laps, but it's over now.

After I cooled down, then ran some more with Tyson for his warm up and cool down for his 800m(where he placed 6th with 1:57.81).  I ran some more just because my legs could.  I did another 3 when I got home too.

Nice job! Paper says you had the 4th fastest time of the year even in the cold conditions. Sub 9 is very near.

Conner - very solid performance, congratulations! Only 6 seconds off your recent sea-level best.

9:10 on a wet, cold day is very respectable! Great work!

Good race Conner. I think you could have beat him too. Hard to look back at those things though. I remember a few road races that I ran with you a few years ago and it always struck me how you would NEVER let me pass you. If I did you just passed me back. Do the same thing with these guys!
