Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks. 

PRs: 800: 1:56.80-State Track 2014

1600: 4:10-State Track 2014/Mile: Sea Level-Adidas Grand Prix-4:07

3200:Alititude(~4500ft): 8:57.99-State Track 2014-2 Mile:8:53 at Brooks PR Invitational

5K: New Balance Indoor Nationals(2014) - 14:24

10K:USA Junior Track Championships (2014)-31:01

15K: Blacksmith Fork Freedom Run (aided) 48:10(2013).

Half Marathon: 
Utah Valley Half - 1:11:24(aided)(2012)

Post-mission:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.  

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness. 

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

     5.2 easy with the team, then Tyson, Ethan, and Stockton ran 3X400m with me to help me pace for the 5000m in a week.  Coach said just do 3X1 minute at race pace, so I decided to do it on the track and go the extra so many meters.  We hit 65, 66, 65.  It was weird how easy it felt.  But then again, it was only one lap with a minute or two recovery.

So you are running the 5000 at nationals?

I'm excited for you... I think sometimes the mile and even two-mile are too short for you, the way you hammer out tempo runs... 5K on the track is going to really suit your strengths.

Thanks Jake, and yeah, the mile has always felt too short, and I've had trouble pacing the 2 mile for the last year, so I think with my tempos I'll have an extra gear that others won't have in the 5,000m.

Do you have any recommendations on how to run a 5,000m on a track or an indoor track? Just try for even pace, is it usually first mile faster or something?

What kind of time are you targeting? 14:30-ish?

I'd say even splits... it should be as crazy of a start as an XC 5K... try to get settled into a good position after a lap and keep the laps as consistent as possible.

Alright, thanks Jake. And yeah, I'm going for 14:27ish, just faster than what Elijah ran last year outdoors. So that's like 34-35s I think.

That's what I figured... yeah 35s is 14:35, so you want to be high 34s each lap. I think you can break 14:30... I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this one!
